Matthew
Farwell has over 25 years of experience as an international
educator, and his own childhood was similar to that of many of our
students. He grew up in a military family, changing schools 10 times
in 12 years, and lived in the USA, Guam, England, and Spain. He and
his wife, Cindy, have two children, both of whom attended and
graduated from international schools.
Mr. Farwell received his B.A. in Literature from
Johnston College/University of Redlands in California, and his M.S.
in Educational Administration and Mid-Management Certification from
Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He has taught in and led schools in
the USA, Iran, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Yemen, Japan,
Egypt, Kazakhstan, and China. His interests include sports, music,
reading, and traveling. He is excited about living in Zhuhai and
leading QSI International School of Zhuhai into a dynamic new
chapter in its ten year history!

Ms Helen graduated from Zhong Nan University of Economics & Law
where she majored in Legal English. She has been working in QSI for
3 years. Ms Helen holds a teaching certificate on special education
of the State of Missouri, USA and a TEFL certificate. She enjoys and
appreciates the international learning environment in QSI.
Amandio Pereira
Technology
Coordinator
IE, Tech and Math 11
Teacher
Amandio Pereira comes from Setubal, Portugal, where he took his
Computer Science Degree. He's been teaching since 1998. He became a
TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified teacher upon
arriving in China in 2004. Working in QSI has been a rewarding
experience, being a place where he's able to link areas of expertise
in Network Administration and as an Intensive English and Technology
Teacher.
Mr. Pereira is an
environmentalist at heart that enjoys technology, traveling
and outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and sky jumping.

Mercedes Caraveo
Teacher
2 to 3 Year Old Class
Mercedes Caraveo lived in San Diego, CA before coming to China.
Mercedes has an Associate Degree in Science with an emphasis in
Child Development. She taught preschool for many years in both
Mexico and the United States. This is her second year teaching the
three and four year olds at Zhuhai QSI. The preschool program that
she developed last year, following the QSI Curriculum, prepares
children for their future school years.
She is passionate about children
developing their own skills through play and learning activities.
Her hobbies are dancing, cooking and traveling with her family.
Marja Boere
Teacher
4 Year Old Class
Marja Boere grew up in the Netherlands and started teaching 25 years
ago. She graduated in The Hague (Netherlands) and holds a Bachelor
in Elementary Education, a Bachelor degree in Art, a Master degree
in Educational Science with a specialization in Special
education/learning disabilities, as well as a TEFL certificate.
She came to
China in 2001 with her family. Marja loves to cycle to school,
enjoying the Chinese life from the inside. Every activity related
to art or cultural performances are her favorites to escape her busy
life in China.
Cindy Farwell
Teacher
5 and 6 Year Old Class
Cindy Farwell is from the United States and grew up in its capital,
Washington D.C. Florida is currently where she calls home, although
she has lived abroad for as many years as she has in her home
country. Teaching in international schools has been a career choice
for both she and her husband, and QSI International School of Zhuhai
is Cindy’s seventh international school. She has also taught in
Ukraine, Yemen, the Philippines, Japan, Egypt, and Kazakhstan. She
has two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom graduated from
international schools.
Cindy graduated Magna Cum Laude
from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BA in education
with a specialization in reading. She holds a teaching
certificate from the state of Texas. Her hobbies include travel,
scuba diving, photography, and cooking. She thoroughly enjoys her
life as an international educator and hopes to live and work abroad
for many years to come.

Kathy Anderson
Teacher
7 and
8 Year Old Class
Ms. Anderson taught school in
Berkshire, VT for 33 years. After retiring from the public
schools she has been teaching in Colombia, South America,
Thailand, and Indonesia. This is her second year at QSI Zhuhai,
and she is very much enjoying the spirit of cooperation,
support, and sharing among the students, parents and staff.
She is looking forward to spending Christmas at
home for the first time in 7 years and celebrating her
daughter’s wedding.

Joanie Lang
Teacher
9 to 11 Year Old Class
Joanie Lang started teaching in 1976, and
still thrives on it! She loves QSI, because she believes the
master-based learning program is meaningful and motivating for kids.
She also has seen that class placement based on proficiency (rather
than age) offers opportunities for every child to succeed.
Joanie graduated
summa cum laude from California State University with majors in
French and physical education. Her master’s degree is in
linguistics (with a TESOL focus) from the University of California.
She holds both elementary and secondary teaching credentials.
In her teaching career, Joanie
has taught English as a Second (or subsequent) Language, English for
native speakers, French, Spanish, math, science, cultural studies,
art, linguistics, and physical education. She has also spent
many years coaching spirit squads (cheer, pom and flag), swimming,
and track. In addition, Joanie has served as a bilingual
specialist and department chair (foreign language). Her
international teaching experience includes 1.5 years teaching at the
QSI school in Macedonia, and 1 year at the QSI school in Chongqing,
China. She is very happy to be here in Zhuhai!
Joanie and her husband, Mahlon
Lang, enjoy four children, who are all currently living in the U.S.

Mahlon Lang
Teacher
11 Year Old Class to Secondary
Mahlon Lang grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He and
Joanie now have a home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He
teaches 11 to 15 year old students. Mahlon first taught at QSI in
Chongqing, China after careers at Purdue University, the University
of California; Farmland Industries and consulting in Peru,
Burkina-Faso and Macedonia. Mahlon coached baseball for five years,
plays tennis, ran a marathon and now swims daily. He is
entering his 12th
year of teaching as he comes to Zhuhai.
Mahlon holds B.A. and M.S.
degrees in Economics and a PhD in Agricultural Economics. He
especially enjoys teaching mathematics, history and writing,
interests he acquired while studying and writing about economic
issues. Mahlon and Joanie Lang have four grown children. Two live in
Colorado and two live in California.

Terry Rhodes
12 and 13 Year Old Math Teacher
Terry Rhodes received a BS
in Middle Grades Education from East Carolina University in North
Carolina in 1991. She’s been teaching middle grades math and
science for the last 17 years in North Carolina and Florida. Terry
moved to Zhuhai in 2008, taking a year off from teaching to enjoy
living in a new country. In her spare time she enjoys reading or
any outdoor activities.

Rebekah Richards
Music Teacher
Rebekah
Richards is from a small town in southern Minnesota in the U.S.A
where she taught music theory and piano pedagogy at a liberal arts
college, maintained a private piano studio, and taught a pre-school
music program at the local arts center. She has a Masters degree in
Piano Performance from the University of Illinois.
During the fall of 2009 she came
to Zhuhai along with her husband, who is a computer
scientist/mathematician. She and her husband have three children;
two live in the U.S.A and one, Nathan, is a student in the secondary
program at QSI.

Chen Ying

Chinese Language
Teacher
Chen Ying enjoys working with the three and four year-old class.
She loves to sing songs, dance, and draw with her students.
Before working at QSI, she was a teacher at a local Chinese
Kindergarten for 13 years. Chen Ying graduated from the Normal
School of Changsha, Hunan
Province, having received her kindergarten teaching certificate.

Guo Yin Lin (Elain)
Preschool (4 year old) Paraprofessional
Guo Yi Lin (Elain) is thrilled to work in QSI. She was a classroom teacher at a
local Chinese Kindergarten for 11 years. Elain graduated from Zhuhai Normal
School in 1996 majoring in Preschool Education. In 2002 she graduated from South
China Normal University majoring in Preschool Education. She loves to sing,
dance, and thoroughly enjoys seeing the children’s smile every day.

Luo Qing

Language Teacher
Luo Qing graduated from Wuhan
Normal School in 1987 majoring in Preschool
Education. In 1998 she graduated from Wuhan Economic Management College
majoring in Office Management.
Ms. Luo worked in Wuhan
Commercial Group Kindergarten as a classroom
teacher from 1987 to 1992. From 1992 through 2002 she was a classroom Teacher
and a Director in the ZhuHai East Asia Children Service Center. Since 2003 Ms.
Luo works in QSI as a Chinese language teacher and also as a paraprofessional.

Liu Lang Ying
Chinese
Language Teacher
Liu Langying is a senior Chinese language teacher with over 20 years of
experience. She has repeatedly been granted the Excellent Educator and
Outstanding Educational Instructors’ awards.
Since 2000 she has been
engaged in researching and teaching Chinese as a foreign language with students
from many countries around the world such as the United
States, Britain, Russia, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Hungary, The Netherlands,
Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macao, among others.
Being active, caring
and appreciative are Ms. Liu’s teaching traits.

Marey Chen
Office
Assistant
Ms. Marey Chen graduated from Hunan Business College in 2007 with a B.A. in
Tourist Management. While at University she worked as a part-time tourist guide.
Marey is passionate about working with and around children and thoroughly enjoys
working at QSI.
Her hobbies include
reading, internet browsing and traveling.
