SIS Drama
Drama is an integral part of our K-12 curriculum. Each elementary class produces a short class play each year, performed to a small audience of parents and some other elementary classes. This helps our students develop confidence to speak and perform in front of others, from an early age.
The all-school drama production is a highlight of the school year. There are usually three performances, for audiences that include the SIS students, SIS parents, and students from other schools. It is produced primarily by our secondary drama students. Other students are also encouraged to get involved. They are welcome to audition if they wish to perform and further develop their drama skills, or they can help with backstage, costumes, make-up or promotion.
Secondary Drama is an elective course, by which students can gain five of the ten fine arts credits that are required for graduation. The class introduces various elements of theatre including movement, voice, production, script writing, and the behind-the-scenes elements involved in every production. The course is performance-based with emphasis on class participation, group interaction, and cooperative decision-making.
This year’s all-school drama, entitled 'Tumble Weeds', is scheduled to be performed on 24-25 February 2009. Elementary class plays are usually performed during April and May. Exact dates will be announced nearer the time.
Following are snapshots from previous all-school performances.
