Art at SIS
Ten secondary Art credits are needed to graduate from SIS. Students take art classes throughout their elementary and middle school careers, and are required to take at least one art course in secondary.
The Art I course is a broad-based class during which students explore a number of media including sketching, painting, sculpting in plaster and stone, clay, printing, mixed media and projects incorporating electronic technology such as digital imagery and computers. Students are encouraged to explore their minds and the techniques to which they are exposed and to work to the best of their abilities.
An Art History outcome is incorporated into the curriculum to expose students to the development of artistic ideas throughout the ages.
Art II and III, AP, Monumental Sculpture, and Drawing classes are also offered for those who wish to take their artwork to higher levels.
