Message from the director

Dr. ElswickDear Viewer,
Welcome to the Ashgabat International School website. My hope is that you find this website helpful and informative whether you are a current parent looking for the latest newsletter or an educator interested in working at AIS. But, if you leave this site with questions unanswered, please give us a call or send an email.

For those who may be interested, please allow me the opportunity to say a little about myself and why I am thrilled to be at AIS both as a professional and as a parent. Some time ago, my wife, Lindsay, told me that we should apply with an organization called QSI.  We had mentally committed to moving abroad and researching possible employers was all but irresistible, particularly to Lindsay.  I asked why QSI, and she said, “Because they seem like they care.”  Here we are at QSI Ashgabat International School, some time later, and I’m struck by how accurate her initial statement remains.

It took me a long time to realize that not all schools care.  And by “caring” I mean caring whether each student learns the material and caring whether each student experiences success more often than failure.  Shockingly and sadly, most schools do not take the time to make such assurances on behalf of their students.  Schools like Ashgabat International School are not as common as they should be. Professionally, I am grateful to be a part of an organization that is committed to the success of each student.

In addition to the professional reasons, I have personal reasons for being grateful for a school like Ashgabat International School.  Lindsay and I have twin boys in elementary school.  As we researched international schools, my wife and I began to feel knots in our stomachs as we realized the kinds of schools our children may attend.  Because we value a caring school over a large, impersonal school, our worries regarding our children continued to build. Fortunately, we found QSI and, more specifically, Ashgabat International School. What a relief it is to know that our children are in good hands.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mitchell Elswick
