The Parent Support Group (PSG) at AIS is open to all parents and teachers of the school. All parents and teachers are encouraged to get involved; there are no admission requirements or annual fees. The purpose of this organization is to make our school the best possible place for our children. The PSG provides volunteers when needed, hosts several fundraising events throughout the school year to fund additional resources and provides a forum for dialogue between parents, teachers and the school administration. The PSG has an elected executive board made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Class Room Representative. Some of the activities of the PSG are as follows.
Monthly PSG Meetings: PSG meetings are held at the school, every third Wednesday of each month in the PSG room at 14:00. The agenda will be published in the school’s weekly newsletter. In addition, the minutes of the meetings will be posted on the PSG link on the school’s website.
PSG Activities
Cupcake Day: Throughout the school year the PSG will host cupcake days, usually every last Friday of the month. Cupcakes are baked by parent volunteers and sold to elementary students for 100 kzt each. This is a very popular event with the children.
Book Fair: In the fall, the PSG sponsors a book fair. English books ordered from Scholastic are available for purchase. Children have the opportunity to visit the book fair during school hours. Parents are also invited to attend. This is a fundraising event.
Spring Social: In the spring, the PSG will host a big family event. The specifics of the event itself vary from year to year. It is a family social event where everyone can get together for an afternoon or evening of fun and help raise money for the PSG at the same time.
School Phone Directory: The PSG compiles and sponsors the school phone directory, which is available to all families. This is a very useful resource; please make sure you get your copy. The directory is organized by class and also by family name.
Classroom Representatives: The PSG asks for one parent to volunteer to be the classroom representative for each classroom. This parent then becomes the contact point between teacher and the parents. They can assist the teacher in soliciting volunteers or finding things needed in each classroom. They are also the contact point for the PSG to pass information on to the rest of the parents as required.
Funding: The PSG annually funds many projects. These are usually small things that supplement the school budget. Traditionally the PSG has contributed to support such things as cultural events, activity programs, secondary sports uniforms, educational field trips and individual class projects.
Fundraising: In order to support this funding, the PSG must also raise money through various events. Some of these events are large like the spring event, some are smaller, regular events like the cupcake day.
Volunteers: The PSG is also a resource for teachers to find volunteers. Many teachers require additional support in the form of classroom help for special projects, extra supervision for field trips, etc. Many parents within the school may possess special skills or knowledge that could be of benefit to the school.
Parent Support: The PSG is also a resource for parents. Parents with a common interest - the well being of there children - can also support each other. The PSG is a valuable resource for new families and parents to help them get settled in their new location.
